To the great surprise of all it was not the Norwegian team, who were considered favourites, but the Scottish U17 women’s football team to make it to the final eight in England from Group 5 of the elite round. All games were played in Bük and Sopron in the first week of October 2013.

Group 5 was made up of the hosts, Norway, Finland and Scotland. The host of Hungarian games was Sopron, however the Hungarian Soccer Association (MLSZ) established their headquarters in Bük. The teams stayed at the Danubius Health Spa Resort and had their trainings in the Sports Centre.

There were only few who would have thought that it will be the Scottish national team, who lost to Hungary, to celebrate at the end of the mini-tournament, while the Norwegian side, having started the tournament with a knock-out victory, would be left in grief.

Well, this is exactly what happened in the next rounds. Scotland defeated Norway and the Finns battered us. It was impossible to predict the winner one round before the end, but both the Scottish and Finnish teams won and it was Scotland to make it to the final eight with a better result against Finland. Norway can still hope to qualify as the best second-placed team.

As far as the performance of the Sports Centre is concerned both the MLSZ, the national teams using the field and the representatives of the UEFA spoke in words of praise. Katarzina Wierzbowska certified the centre field as excellent. Wierzbowska was the assistant referee in the women's World Championship in 2003 in the USA and also at two Olympic Games.

Result of the group: 1. Scotland 6 points, 2. Norway 6 points, 3. Finland 3 points, 4. Hungary 3 points. (in case of equal points, the results against each other are taken into account)
